Alcohol in public places Bye-Laws come into force next week

Bye-Laws to control the consumption and possession of alcohol in public places in Kilcullen and 23 other towns will come into force on 30 December 2020, writes Brian Byrne.

The Bye-Laws were adopted by the Council on 30 November 2020, and apply to Ardclough, Athy, Ballymore-Eustace, Castledermot, Celbridge, Clane, Derrinturn, Johnstown, Johnstown Bridge, Kilcock, Kilcullen, Kildare, Kill, Kilmeague, Leixlip, Maynooth, Monasterevin, Naas, Newbridge, Prosperous, Rathangan, Robertstown, Sallins and Straffan.

The bye-laws, including maps of the locations and their environs to which the bye-laws apply may be purchased for a fee of €5 or can be viewed free of charge here.

Alcohol by-laws proposals on view

The proposed bye-laws on consumption of alcohol in public places are now available to view in Kilcullen Library, writes Brian Byrne.

The by-laws when implemented will apply in 20 towns and villages throughout the county, and will specify fixed penalty fines and possible prosecution in the courts for people who contravene them.

The proposals can also be viewed on Kildare County Council's website www.kildarecoco.ie. The inspection period runs until 24 July 2019, and the closing date for submissions is 5pm on Wednesday 7 August 2019.

Alcohol Bye-Laws for June council briefing

Alcohol Bye-Laws for Kilcullen have moved a step closer following agreement on the draft regulations with Kildare County Council's legal advisors, writes Brian Byrne.

Councillors will be briefed in June on the bye-laws, which will cover Athy, Ballymore-Eustace, Castledermot, Celbridge, Clane, Johnstown, Kilcock, Kilcullen, Kildare, Kill, Kilmeague, Leixlip, Maynooth, Monasterevin, Naas, Newbridge, Prosperous, Rathangan, Robertstown and Sallins.

Maps have been prepared for each of the 20 towns and villages, and they will go on public display with the proposed regulations for a minimum of 30 days. A two-week submission period will follow.

Officials hope to bring a report on the results to the September meeting of the full Council, following consideration of the issue at relevant individual Municipal District meetings.

The bye-laws are designed to restrict consumption of alcohol in public spaces.
