KCA Golf Classic prizes presented

Prizes were presented at The Spout last night following the very successful KCA fundraising golf classic at Rathsallagh Golf & Country Club, writes Brian Byrne. The weather stayed fine for those who got out in the morning, but even when rain closed in later, it was a very enjoyable event.
From 21 teams who teed off, the top five were Frank Berry's at 51.3, Martin Sheridan (52.5), Steve Kinneavy (56.1), Richie Galway (56.7),and Kevin Brady (56.9). Other wins were Bridget Ryan for Ladies Nearest to Pin, Aidan Casey for Men's Longest Drive, and Tom Keane for Men's Nearest to Pin.
The KCA organising committee for the event were Sorcha McCoy, Antoinette Buckley, Pat Mangan, and Jim Buckley. Key sponsors were Newbridge Silver, Burke's Pharmacy Group, Centra, and Britvic, along with widespread support for tee boxes by local businesses and friends of KCA.
Expressing her appreciation to all who had been involved, Antoinette Buckley said that the continuation of KCA-sponsored initiatives in Kilcullen couldn't happen without the 'amazing' support of Tidy Towns volunteers and very generous support from businesses, the community, and Kildare County Council through grants. Specifically, she mentioned the winning of a Silver Medal in the 2024 Supervalu Tidy Towns. "It is a wonderful achievement, and who knows, with such amazing support in our community, the gold medal is very much in sight!"
She repeated the standing invitation for anyone in the community who would like to help with the work of KCA to contact any member. "Even an hour or two to spare in a week is very much appreciated," she said.

High scores and hole in one at Lions golf

Photos courtesy of Kilcullen Lions Club.

It was a good day’s golf and an evening of great entertainment at the Royal Curragh Golf Club yesterday for the Kilcullen Lions Club biannual golf classic, writes Teresa Nurse of Kilcullen Lions. Weather conditions were perfect for some high scores.
Pictured is club president Gordon Glynn presenting the winning team of Eileen, Vourneen, Elaine and Maria with first prize of a meal in Fallons restaurant. Vourneen also received a prize of a Newbridge silver clock for her spectacular hole-in-one on the 11th green.

Afterwards there was lively entertainment in the bar from duo Eoghan O'Toole and Shane O'Conner.

Organisers of the event would like to thank everyone who participated, those who sponsored tee boxes and those who donated prizes. All funds raised go towards the Lions Club sheltered housing units in Kilcullen and energy upgrades.

Community Centre win Golf Classic for Missing

golfclassic

A team from Kilcullen Community Centre won a recent Golf Classic held in aid of the Missing in Ireland Support Services, writes Brian Byrne.

The team members were Jimmy Jordan, Ollie Meade, Gerry Scully and John Breen. They played in a 35 teams entry. "It was a tough course, a championship course, and a very enjoyable day," Jimmy Jordan commented afterwards.

The annual event, which was held in the New Forest Golf Club in Tyrrellspass, raises funds towards the maintenance of a Missing Persons Helpline (1800 442 552) which has provided practical help to hundreds of families and individuals who suffer the unexpected disappearance of a loved one.

Although the cost of operating the helpline is kept to a minimum, thanks to a high level of volunteerism, the €25,000 needed each year is always more than the organisation's income. "It is essential that our limited resources are not deflected away from our core objective and that we do not end up putting the major part of our work into addressing the shortfall," says its chairperson, Dermot Browne. "Our annual Golf Classic has therefore become a crucial part of our fundraising effort."
