Community Centre win Golf Classic for Missing

A team from Kilcullen Community Centre won a recent Golf Classic held in aid of the Missing in Ireland Support Services, writes Brian Byrne.

The team members were Jimmy Jordan, Ollie Meade, Gerry Scully and John Breen. They played in a 35 teams entry. "It was a tough course, a championship course, and a very enjoyable day," Jimmy Jordan commented afterwards.

The annual event, which was held in the New Forest Golf Club in Tyrrellspass, raises funds towards the maintenance of a Missing Persons Helpline (1800 442 552) which has provided practical help to hundreds of families and individuals who suffer the unexpected disappearance of a loved one.

Although the cost of operating the helpline is kept to a minimum, thanks to a high level of volunteerism, the €25,000 needed each year is always more than the organisation's income. "It is essential that our limited resources are not deflected away from our core objective and that we do not end up putting the major part of our work into addressing the shortfall," says its chairperson, Dermot Browne. "Our annual Golf Classic has therefore become a crucial part of our fundraising effort."
