BRANNOXTOWN CNS GETS CLIMATE ACTION GRANT

Brannoxtown CNS will get government investment for climate action and roof works, as one of nine Kildare projects approved under the 2027 Climate Action Summer Works Scheme.
Nationally, €80 million is being disbursed in the second tranche of approvals under the multi-annual scheme arising from applications submitted in 2025.
The approvals were announced by Minister for Education and Youth Hildegarde Naughton. The scheme supports schools in addressing building condition needs while delivering climate action measures that improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and lower operational costs.

Bus service mooted between Brannockstown and Kilcullen

Feedback on the potential use of a bus service from Brannockstown to Kilcullen on Fridays is being requested by Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer, writes Brian Byrne.
The councillor has been working on the possibility of such a service being established to facilitate people who want to go in to Kilcullen to shop on Fridays.
"I believe all our rural towns and villages should have access to public transport and this pilot could be the start for our community," she says. "Initially the proposed pilot route would only operate on a Friday morning but if the service is well used and a greater need is demonstrated it would help make a case for a more frequent service."
Public feedback on pick-up points, service times and frequency would help. Message Tracey on her Facebook page.

Branockstown planning sustainable watering system

A solar-powered sustainable watering system for the flower beds in Brannockstown is being considered by the local Community Group, writes Brian Byrne.
The Group has made an application to Kildare Leader for funding for the initiative, which would use untreated ground water accessed from the source for the original village pump. A solar-powered pump would be used to circulate the water to the beds during the spring and summer.
This was one of the plans discussed at tonight's Village Update Meeting, held in the refurbished Old School building. There was a very good turnout to the meeting, which also provided the opportunity for villagers to see the renewed historic building.
The Principal of Brannoxtown CNS has told the Group the old building is available to them for meetings as and when they need it.
Lance O'Brien was elected Chair of the Group for the coming year, with Richard Kelly Vice-Chair, Trevor Schwer as Treasurer, and Alice Farrell as Secretary.
A Clean Up night was arranged for Tuesday 5 July, with volunteers meeting at 6.30pm in the Baptist car park. All welcome.
