A total of 564,391 people called to the Citizens Information Services in 2019, according to the Annual Report of the Citizens Information Board published during the week, writes Brian Byrne.

The organisation's website Citizensinformation.ie had over 12.5m users, and the Phone Service dealt with 142,951 telephone enquiries. The Money Advice and Budgeting Service had 16,971 new clients during the year, and its Helpline dealt with 25,075 phone calls.

The report covers the first year of a three-year strategy to restructure and streamline the CIB's services. Midlands 50 Plus Expo

The Midlands 50 Plus Expo in Athlone on 16/17 July is an opportunity to have heirlooms and collectibles valued, writes Brian Byrne.

The event, which is free and also open to under-50s, will also feature Conor Pope providing advice on how to spend less and how to deal with the scourge of ‘customer service’.

Checking out family history, crochet and embroidery workshops are also part of the Expo, at the Hodson Bay Hotel. There will also be cooking demonstrations. A free shuttle bus will operate to and from Athlone Railway Station on the event days.

More than 50 exhibitors will be participating in the event, where there will also be free screening for blood pressure, hearing and vision.

Registration details here.
