Kilcullen Cycling Club roundup

Tom Hughes with the Pat Campion Memorial Cup, and Conor Regan with the Murt Brennan Memorial Trophy.

Thursday evening in Carlow, rising Kilcullen Cycling Club star Conor Regan secured the interclub league by finishing second on the night with Taght Roberts in third place, and Tom Hughes was sixth to secure third place in the league overall, writes Liam Walker. The club rode the league as a cohesive unit to ensure that one of our members was the winner of the Meggers Trophy. The final club placings are 1st Conor Regan, 3rd Tom Hughes, 6th Bradley Turner, 7th Emmett Tuite, 8th Fergal Regan, and 9th JB Murphy.
Last Saturday, Tom Hughes was second Junior in the Ciaran Hammond Memorial in Wicklow.
Yesterday, in Sundrive, Conor Regan was in flying form, finishing third in the 500m TT in a time of 38.21. Taght Roberts was fifth in 39,65. In the 200 m flying qualifier, Conor's time of 12.73 was the second fastest. With Taght's time of 12.91 in the semi-finals, both riders missed out and had to face each other in the bronze medal ride-off. Conor emerged victorious by attacking early and holding off Taght. The last race of the day was the 16-lap scratch race, with Conor winning the National Championship with a superb performance, attacking again and again to wear down the field. Taght was outside the medals after some splendid performances.
Clonmel was the venue for the National Enduro Championships this weekend. Young Shane Whelan took the gold medal in the under-17 category, with seconds as his winning margin, placing him 14th overall. Shane was second in the overall series, having only competed in three of the four events.
Congratulations to everyone for such great performances.
