Message in a Bottle initiative by Lions

A Lions initiative launching next week in Naas Garda District could help save a life for someone living on their own, writes Brian Byrne. The Message in a Bottle scheme will subsequently be progressed through the Garda Kildare Division before going nationwide.
The idea is that a special bottle containing personal and medical details of the householders can be kept on the top shelf of a fridge, so that emergency services will quickly be able to access that information. The details are on a form that takes just 10 minutes to complete. Labels for the fridge door and for the inside front door of the house will alert the services to the existence of the information.
A nominal fee of €1 is being charged for the bottle. The main target audience is for vulnerable people living on their own, elderly, and people who have medical conditions. However, anyone can avail of this initiative, which is being launched by Naas Lions Club in Naas Garda Station at 2pm on Tuesday next 14 January.
