Commissioned utility box art in Kilcullen

The first of a number of pieces of street art commissioned by KCA has been completed on a utility box near the Mart, writes Brian Byrne. They are being painted by artist Cian Mekitarian who has already created similar pieces in Naas and Kildare.
Three utility boxes in Kilcullen have been selected for the project, two near the Mart and another at the CPC gates near the traffic lights. The themes agreed are the Mart itself, Biodiversity, and the River Liffey.
"As a group we hope to expand on the street art around the town," says KCA's Antoinette Buckley. "The initial concept for Naas, and subsequently Kildare, was supported by Cllr Bill Clear and we want to thank him for all his work on the initiative."
Cian achieved his degree in Fine Art and Printmaking at the Limerick School of Art and Design, and subsequently qualified in Adult and Community Education at NUI Maynooth. He's currently  a Youth and Community Engagement Worker with Jigsaw in Dublin.
