Birds of prey art exhibition
An exhibition of paintings of raptors by artist Eamonn J Keenan will open in Naas on Thursday 31 October, writes Brian Byrne. It will be held in the Arts & Culture Centre in McAuley Place and will run until 2 November from 11am-9.30pm daily.
The exhibition, which will feature a wide range of birds of prey, will be launched by sculptor Annette McCormack at 7pm on the opening night.
Eamonn is from Newbridge, where he was the art and design teacher in the Vocational School until his retirement. While he has explored many themes throughout his career, he says his interest in all things aviation may have underpinned his work in painting birds. "I have also recently painted the 24 aircraft of the Irish Air Corps deployed since 1923," he adds. "Pioneering aircraft designers found their inspiration in the study of birds, so my interest in painting birds of prey was probably inevitable." Living so close to the Curragh has also inspired him to capture the grace and dynamic presence of horses.
In recent years, Eamonn has exhibited widely, with solo events at the Kilcock Art Gallery, Riverbank Arts Centre Newbridge, the National Stud, and in Co Tyrone at the Ranfurly Arts Centre in Dungannon and the Utopia Gallery in Donaghmore. He has also taken part in many group exhibitions.
