Boston Globe author for Woodbine Books evening
An evening with writer and journalist Emily Sweeney will be held in Woodbine Books on Wednesday 25 September, writes Brian Byrne. The author of Dropkick Murphy: A Legendary Life will discuss the inspiration for her book, professional wrestler Dr John Murphy who put himself through medical school during the Great Depression.
He then opened Bellows Farm, a place where elite athletes could train as well as a secluded enclave where alcoholics could go to sober up discreetly.
Boston Globe journalist Emily Sweeney is the the author of several nonfiction books, including Boston Organized Crime and Gangland Boston. Her 'day job' is covering local news and writing a weekly column for every Sunday, and Cold Case Files, a series and newsletter about unsolved crimes.
The Woodbine Books event kicks off at 7.30pm. Admission free.
