Minister of State and Kildare South TD Martin Heydon has been selected by Fine Gael party members in the constituency to contest the next General Election, writes Brian Byrne.
Minister Heydon is a former student of CPC and a farmer by profession, and was elected to the Dail for Kildare South in 2011.
Describing his selection as a 'great honour', he says he'll be ready to tell his story of local delivery as Kildare’s Minister in Government throughout the last Dáil term, whenever the election is called 'Between now and next March'. "However, my motivation in running in the next General Election is not based on what I have helped to deliver in the past but on what I believe that we can achieve in the future," he stressed. "I never take for granted the honour of representing my county in Dail Eireann and I look forward to continuing to engage with constituents across Kildare South in the time ahead."
Deputy Heydon was originally appointed Minister of State in July 2020 and since then has supported funding and progress for key infrastructure projects across Kildare and increased job opportunities within the county. In addition to his farming brief he has also worked to bring the concerns of small business to Government. He was reappointed Minister of State by An Taoiseach Simon Harris last April.
