Corbally Harbour re-filled

The dredging work at Corbally Harbour has been completed and the harbour is now filled with water again, writes Brian Byrne.
The work was needed to de-silt the long-defunct terminus of the Corbally link, which is also the headwater source for the canal system through Naas to the Grand Canal at Sallins.
Notably, the grassy island that had built up in the middle of the harbour is now gone.
There are objectives in the Draft County Kildare Development Plan 2023-2029 to have the harbour and the link to Naas developed for tourism uses including boating, cycling and walking between Sallins and Corbally, when a Greenway reaches here from Naas and further south to Newbridge, Athgarvan and Kilcullen.
Kilcullen photographer Herbert Sheehan has been keeping a record of the work over recent weeks.
