A foodie night at CPC students' Secret Garden

It was yet another culinary tour de force at Cross and Passion College last evening when Transition Year students from the Food School hospitality module showed off their new skills, writes Brian Byrne.
Forty TY students prepared and served a full dinner in their pop-up Secret Garden restaurant which they had earlier set up and decorated, turning the school's Assembly Hall into a seriously high-class eatery.
The whole event ran smoothly under the supervision of Georga Dowling and Conor Wafer, who operate the Newbridge based Food School and manage the module for the college. A number of Fifth Year students who had participated in last year's similar event also helped out.
Some 85 invited guests, most of them parents of the students along with a small number of college staff, enjoyed a selection from starters that included Caesar Salad, Feta and Beetroot Fritters, and Salmon Eclairs. Mains choices from chicken, salmon, or beef and Guinness pie as well as an Italian vegan option were also on the very smartly-designed menu, followed by some quite delicious desserts.
In addition to the kitchen and waiting staff, other students operated as managers and greeters, welcoming the guests.
The event was premiered in February 2020, and after postponements by the pandemic was revived last year.
A selection of photos from this evening are with this post, and all the Diary's pictures can be seen here.
