'Memorable' 2024 Brigid 1500 programme launched
The 2024 Brigid 1500 programme promises to be a 'memorable experience that all generations will enjoy' the Leas-Cathaoirleach of Kildare County Council, Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer said last night, writes Brian Byrne.
Speaking at the programme's launch in Barberstown Castle Cllr O'Dwyer described St Brigid's significance in Ireland as 'unparalleled' and embodying the qualities that define Irish culture — compassion, creativity, biodiversity and resilience. "I read a line recently that referenced St Brigid as a peace-maker and I just thought how relevant the values of Brigid are in this modern day," she added.
Extending an invitation for everyone to get involved in what is going to be 'an incredible year', the councillor said the saint's legacy can be upheld through acts of kindness, artwork, community spirit and mutual dedication to safeguarding Ireland's cultural values.
A surprise guest at the launch event was Eleanor McEvoy, who gave one of her signature performances of 'A Woman's Heart'.
