Choristers visit St Oliver Plunkett shrine
To celebrate All Saints Day on November 1st, the Choristers of St Brigid from Kilcullen made a pilgrimage to Drogheda to visit and pray to St Oliver Plunkett, writes Niamh Traynor. We sang at 10.30am mass in St Peter’s Church where we were warmly welcomed.
The Choristers and friends had written their prayer petitions on the bus on the way up and they were placed in front of the altar for mass. St Oliver Plunkett is the patron saint of Peace and Reconciliation in Ireland so we prayed for that and also for peace and reconciliation in our parish.
After mass we had lunch in Bettystown and then continued our journey by visiting Mellifont Abbey — Mellifont was the first Cistercian monastery in Ireland. From there we visited the prayer house www.apostlesoflove.ie where the children led the rosary. We arrived back in Kilcullen at 5:30pm singing Rise Up O’Flame in chorus.
Our next event is a Music Table Quiz hosted by the Choristers this Saturday 11th November at 7pm in Kilcullen Parish Centre. It is open to family, friends and benefactors of our little choir — we would especially love to see other choir members join us to test their music knowledge. Prizes, raffle and fun on the night.
