Tennis Club gets approval for lights, clubhouse changes
Kilcullen Tennis Club has been granted planning permission to erect floodlights on a third court at the facility, writes Brian Byrne.
Conditional permission was granted on 4 August to the club, which had applied for consent to six floodlights on the court, previously unlit.
Nearby residents had objected to the application citing a previous agreement that there would not be lighting on Court 3 and saying that light overspill to their property would be an issue.
For the club, chairperson Peter Ronayne acknowledged the previous agreement but said the experience of the lights on the other two courts 'leads us to feel that the impact on the neighbours is minimal, and adding lights to the third court barely increases this impact at all'. He also noted that under the previous agreement the lights are all automatically turned off at 10pm.
The 10pm curfew is also a condition in the latest planning approval.
The club was also granted permission to make changes to the facades of the clubhouse, including modification of existing doors and windows and installing new doors and windows.
