Kilcullen Library walk to find Brigid leads list of today's heritage options

A reminder that the key Heritage Week event in Kilcullen today is a walk to seek references to St Brigid in the community, writes Brian Byrne.
Organised by Julie O'Donoghue and Mary Orford, Finding St Brigid will start from the Library at 2pm with lots of interesting ideas for all the family, including recreations of clothing and tools from Brigid's time. Children can try on St Brigid's 'cloak' and also find their Celtic names.
This will be a fun event, and it looks like the saint has intervened and the heavy rain of overnight will likely have passed, but suitable walking shoes or boots are advised for walking through the Valley, which may be wet and a little slippy underfoot. There will be refreshments and chat back in the Library after the walk.
Other events outside Kilcullen today include a tour of Moone Abbey House and the High Cross of Moone at 11am and 2pm, a tour of the hydroelectric facilities and garden at the Old Mill Community Centre in Celbridge from 11am-12.15pm, a workshop in Kildare Town by Kildare Wildlife Rescue on the folk tales, myths and legends relating to the wild animals that have lived in Ireland throughout the centuries, starting at 2pm, a talk in St David's Church in Naas about 800 years of history concentrating on its association with Normans and its past associations with the Royal Dublin Fusiliers.
Lots more further afield, the Diary's linked spreadsheet of Heritage Week events through County Kildare can be accessed here. They are tabulated both by town and by date.
