Looking Back: Digging out for a dream

This photo of a digger at work might well have many residents of Kilcullen today bemused, writes Brian Byrne.
It is in fact operating inside the old Nolan's Butchers shop back in July 2006, preparing for the construction of the award-winning shop that is known throughout Ireland and in many parts of Europe today.
It was the start of a 'dream on the way to reality' the Diary reported at the time, and to make way for the work, James Nolan had moved the shop to a temporary premises just down the road (below), which had been in fact where James's great-grandfather had set up his first butcher's stall.
