Castlemartin owner's company bids for Spurs

A connection, albeit tenuous, between Kilcullen and the UK football club Tottenham Hotspurs may be on the cards, with talks reported to be underway by Liberty Media to buy the club, writes Brian Byrne.

Liberty Media was founded by Castlemartin House owner John C Malone, wealthy American businessman and philantropist. He bought Castlemartin, previously the Irish home of Dr Tony O'Reilly, in 2014.

Liberty Media also owns the commercial rights to Formula 1, bought in 2017, and the Atlanta Braves baseball team in America.

Tottenham Hotspur was founded in 1882 as Hotspur FC and is currently ranked eighth in the 20-team British Premier League. The club shares the nickname 'Lilywhites' with County Kildare's GAA team.
