Local schools feature in Cruinniú na nÓg

Three local schools are involved in animation films projects as part of the Cruinniú na nÓg programme 2023 happening next Saturday 10 June, writes Brian Byrne.
Scoil Bhride Kilcullen, Brannoxtown CNS, and St Laurence's Crookstown NS will screen Stop-Motion movies they have made under the direction of artist Margaret Kane-Rowe as part of the Teacher Artist Partnership (TAP) and BLAST (Bringing Live Arts to Students and Teachers) residencies in the Odeon Cinema, Newbridge.
The Stop Motion technique uses a camera on a tripod taking images of objects that are moved after every shot, eventually creating a movie with the accumulated photographs played in sequence, telling whatever story is involved in the set.
A range of other activities for Cruinniú na nÓg are taking place across County Kildare and the rest of the country. Ireland is the first, and only, country in the world to have a national day of free creativity for children and young people under 18.
The inaugural Cruinniú na nÓg took place on 23rd June 2018 and since then young people and families have come together to enjoy a wide range of creative activities including workshops and tutorials to recitals and readings.
The programmes are delivered in partnership with Ireland's 31 local authorities and supported by RTÉ.
