Riverbank screening of North Circular memories
Music at The Cobblestone. |
There aren't so many of us around now who can remember cattle being driven along the streets from the North Circular Road Market through Dublin city to the boats on the North Wall, but a documentary being screened at the Riverbank Arts Centre next week will evoke such memories and more, writes Brian Byrne.
North Circular is a documentary musical that travels the length of North Circular Road and into the city, exploring its history, music and streetscapes. It will be shown on Thursday 23 February at 8pm.
The film is directed by Luke McManus and will also make its North American Premiere this coming Thursday 16 February at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, along with other Irish films The Quiet Girl and Lakelands.
In addition to dealing with many aspects of Dublin city's history, and that of the nation, the production is right up to date with the recent battle to save the legendary Cobblestone pub, centre of Dublin’s folk revival, from destruction by developers.
The film also includes musical performances from artists local to NCR, including John Francis Flynn, Séan Ó Túama, Eoghan O’Ceannabháin, Ian Lynch and Gemma Dunleavy.
North Circular will be screened at Riverbank Arts Centre on Thursday 23 February at 8pm. Tickets at €9 can be booked through the Box Office, either in person or by telephone on 045 448327 Monday to Friday 9.30am-5pm (closed for lunch 2-2.30pm) and Saturday 10am-1pm. Tickets can also be booked 24/7 on www.riverbank.ie.
