Remote working hub mooted for Community Centre
Community Centre AGM. |
The possibility of developing a remote working digital hub in Kilcullen Community Centre was discussed at the recent AGM of the facility, writes Brian Byrne.
The matter came up when ideas were being explored on creating further income generating spaces at the Centre, specifically re-purposing existing areas such as an unused room over the pre-school operated by ELMS.
Centre manager Enda O’Neill said there are people in Kilcullen working remotely, and they don’t want to be doing so always from their home. Further discussion on the viability of the idea included commentary on people preferring to return to the office, but also having the option of doing so two or three days a week and possibly working from a remote local hub on the others to save commuting time.
Meeting chairman Ronan Murphy said there are grants available for electric car charging points at sports facilities, and having these installed could work well with a remote working hub. Enda O’Neill added that even if the working hub didn’t work out in the end, it would be a room developed that ‘could be used for something else’.
Over the last year or so, other rooms have been repurposed for bringing in income, including the Coffee Hatch, and a former GAA changing room developed for a physiotherapy service. “That was a room which hadn’t been used for 20 years,” Enda O’Neill noted.
