Liam O'Flynn music concert planned
Details of a concert in Kilcullen to highlight the music of the late Liam O'Flynn will be revealed shortly, writes Brian Byrne.
At the recent meeting of Kilcullen Community Action, Ray Kelly said the concert 'will happen'. "We will have word and the plan in a couple of weeks," he said. A festival grant from Kildare County Council has already been allocated for the event.
Ray Kelly is one of the organisers of the revived Red Hot Music Club in Fallons, which has been attracting full-house audiences for a range of top-flight Irish musicians.
Liam O'Flynn passed away in 2018. The Kill-born musician was a frequent visitor to Kilcullen through the years, and in 2008 he was commissioned by Kilcullen Community Action to compose a piece to mark the dedication of the Dun Ailinne Interpretive Park.
'Dun Ailinne and the Clann March' was sponsored by Dr Tony O'Reilly of Castlemartin House, and debuted in Kilcullen Town Hall in 2008 (pictured above) during the dedication celebrations of the sculpture.
