The installation of a public-access defibrillator by Burkes Pharmacy Group, at their premises in 3 North Main Street, Naas, is part of a programme to have the live saving devices at all of their stores.
The initiative was launched today in the presence of Mayor of Naas Cllr Evie Sammon along with James Lawless TD and Naas MD councillors, and Naas Community First Responders.
"If a defibrillator is used and CPR is performed within the first five minutes of cardiac arrest, survival chances increase from 6pc to 74pc," says Antoinette Buckley, Area Manager for the group. "We are excited to work with Naas First Responders on this initiative for the Naas Community and fund the defibrillator. We hope to roll it out in the other stores in the near future."
The group, owned by Joan Kilgallen, has three stores in Naas, one in Kilcullen and two in Dublin. A defibrillator is already available within the Kilcullen store at Hillcrest during opening hours.
