Traffic calming assessment for Two Mile House

Kildare-Newbridge MD officials are to undertake a Technical Assessment on a request that traffic calming measures be installed at Two Mile House on the approach road from Athgarvan, writes Brian Byrne.
The request was made by way of motion by Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer, who said speeding along this stretch of road was raised time and time again in a recent meeting with An Garda. The councillor is seeking to have similar traffic-calming as exists on the approach road from Naas, where 'table top' installations force motorists to slow down.
"They are very effective, so I welcome the confirmation of a Technical Assessment," she said, noting that on the Athgarvan approach there is no real infrastructure to alert motorists that they are entering the village and should slow down.
At today's meeting of the MD, Cllr O'Dwyer was also told that a request for the provision of a playground for Two Mile House can be considered in the allocation of funding towards such capital projects, scheduled for Q2 2023. The councillor had requested by motion that funding be ring-fenced from Development Levies for the playground and for a footpath which the community has looked for over the past 20 years.
"A playground for Two Mile House was identified in Kildare County Council's play strategy back in 2014," Cllr O'Dwyer said. "A site has now been identified for Kildare County Council. A residential development will over the coming year have generated a considerable amount of development levies for the County, and I would like it on the record that I believe a small proportion of this funding should be allocated in the capital programme to deliver a playground."
She noted that the village has only ever looked for two amenities from Kildare County Council — a playground and a path. "A very small proportion of funding would easily cover both projects," Cllr O'Dwyer added, saying in conclusion that she will be 'banging a drum' for the works when the capital projects funding is being discussed.
