Bridge footpath icy danger needs council attention

Walking downtown this morning I was reminded again to remark on the dangerous icy footpath across the bridge, writes Brian Byrne.
Despite the overnight frost, the other footpaths in town are dry and safe, but there's something about the bridge ones that keep them lethal in near- or sub-zero temperatures.
It may the the fact of the river underneath, though my own suspicion is that it's something to do with the slabs used there.
Whichever, it would be a good idea if the council thought to give them a few shovels of salt-grit at times like these?
When I saw people taking the chance to walk on the road across the bridge instead of the footpath, it brought the danger doubly home.
