A short but busy week for Kilcullen

It's a short week following the bank holiday, but there's a fair bit going on, especially towards the end, writes Brian Byrne.
Starting with today at 2.30pm, when the Bridge Camphill Nature Trail is reopened to the public after being closed since the beginning of the pandemic. There'll be a real air of celebration, with refreshments, fancy dress competition, and most of all a welcome relinking of the Bridge Community with the wider Kilcullen. It may be showery, but bring a brolly and enjoy anyway.
On Friday evening at 7pm there's the first training session for the Kilcullen GAA Couch to 5km fitness fundraiser that will culminate in the Run, Run, Rudolph! walk and run family event on Sunday 11 December. No1 Fitness are helping out.
Saturday night sees Halverstown Cricket Club celebrating with a Gala Night in the Osprey Hotel, Naas, to mark 137 years of continuous existence of the oldest cricket club outside Dublin. The event was originally supposed to mark the 135th two years ago but was postponed by the pandemic.
Sunday next is a big day for a lot of different organisations, notably the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the building of the parish church. Archbishop Dermot Farrell will preside. Watch out for the November Bridge, which will have a special section to mark the occasion.
It's Sunday too for those taking part in the Maintain Hope trek up Lugnaquilla mountain to raise funds for the charity that supports families in Kenya, especially their education.
And Kilcullen AFC's Fun Run is also taking place on the day, for those who want some exercise that's not as demanding as the Lugnaquilla ascent.
Plenty to plan for, so.
