A workshop for children in scribing like the ancient monks is a highlight of Kildare Heritage Week this afternoon, writes Brian Byrne.
The three-hour event under the direction of artist Josephine Hardiman is in Kildare Town Library, starting at 1.30pm.
The participants will use oak gall inks, quills, reed pens and handmade paper in this celtic-style workshop.
For children aged 8-12 years, advance booking is essential, phone 045 520235.
This evening, a walk through Pollardstown Fen organised by Birdwatch Ireland could be a lovely way to end the day.
The event kicking off from the fen car park at 8pm will provide a dusk view of birds in the fen. If weather permits, there will also be a demonstration of ringing swallows and martins, showing the conservation work of the Midlands Ringing Group.
It's suitable for adults, and children under 12, and is wheelchair accessible.
