'No funds' for any changes to Kilcullen crossroads
No funding has been identified for any enhancements to the signalised crossroads at Kilcullen, councillors were told at yesterday's meeting of the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District, writes Brian Byrne.
The matter arose in response to a question tabled by Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer asking that the council consider removing a car space and narrowing the footpath to allow cars turn left or drive straight on towards Athy.
The officials' report said any enhancements to the junction would require the removal of parking spaces on the approaches in order to improve the waiting areas for pedestrians and improve the layout for cyclists and other road users.
At the same meeting, Cllr O'Dwyer achieved agreement to her request that the council would assess the road markings on the R412 Brannockstown to Carnalway Cross road with a view to amending the existing broken white line to a continuous white line for a small section where there is an issue about overtaking while residents are turning into their homes.
