Have your say on Kilcullen's future

A reminder that Kilcullen people have their first opportunity this week to have their say on how they want to see the town in the future, by participating in the development of a Design Statement, writes Brian Byrne.

An online survey now under way and a drop-in day at Kilcullen Town Hall next weekend are the first elements in the public participation for the project. Community members have the opportunity to give their views on what they think is distinctive and unique about Kilcullen which could help with tourism and business strategies for the town. They are also being asked their views on what a successful Kilcullen will look like in terms of amenities, attractiveness, transport, environment and sustainability.

Organised by the Kilcullen Community Action project team in association with consultants Paul Hogarth and Company, the survey is now live with a link available from KCA’s social media — Facebook and Instagram — and by clicking on the image above or scanning the QR code. The link can also be got by sending an email to kilcullencommunityaction@gmail.com.

KCA member Noel Clare says the project is aimed at making Kilcullen the best place to live and work and this Design Statement has the potential to help shape that future. "If we have a shared vision and agreed priorities for Kilcullen we let developers and planners understand our expectations of how we think that vision can become a reality," he says. "We want the views of everyone in the town, young and old, long term residents and newcomers, people who live and work here.”

This is the first phase of the Kilcullen Design Statement process. The results of the survey will be communicated back to the community and priorities identified.

For those who would prefer to fill in the survey in person the drop-in day is Saturday 27 November between 11am-4pm. Representatives of the Paul Hogarth Company will be on hand to answer any questions.

Everybody who has any view on Kilcullen, how it can be improved or should develop in the future, is invited to take part in the process, either online or at the Town Hall.

Kilcullen Design Statement is funded by County Kildare Leader Partnership and grants from KCC through Cllrs Tracey O’Dwyer and Rob Power.
