There is still no information on the identity of a man whose body was found in the Liffey at Kilcullen yesterday, writes Brian Byrne.
Gardai told the Diary this morning they have no reports yet of anyone missing in the area, and are seeking the public's help in identifying him.
Described as probably being around 60, with receding hair and a moustache, the man was wearing a blue and white checked shirt. He is not believed to have been in the water for a significant length of time.
Gardai were notified of the body at around 10.30am yesterday by a resident of the Market Square apartments which overlook the river.
The body was on the Valley side where the water is deep, and the dead man was retrieved with the help of local man Alan O'Connell, who went to the location in his canoe.
Initial enquiries were made in local pubs and accommodation providers to see if anyone was missing, but with no success.
Emergency services brought the body to Naas Hospital where a post mortem will be held.
