Government approves funding for Patisiran medicine

The Government has approved funding for the Patisiran drug which Newbridge photographer Pat Tinsley has been fighting for since he was diagnosed with  hATTR Amyloidosis, a degenerative and debilitating disease.

Welcoming the news today, which he said was 'after a long battle', Kildare South TD and Minister of State Martin Heydon said it will be funded from the €50m for new medicines which was allocated to the HSE in 2021.

He added that he will continue to work to ensure the necessary procedures to implement this programme of reimbursement is put in place by the HSE without delay.
