Weatherday: Catholic contract

Looking good through the morning with good sun. Some cloud through the afternoon is set to clear back to sunny spells later.

Temperatures up to 13deg in light to moderate breeze from the south.

On this day in 1492, Christopher Columbus signed a contract with the monarchy of Spain to find the 'Indies'. In return for converting the people of the countries he found to Catholicism, he would earn 10pc of all riches discovered, and the governorship of any lands he came across.
