Heydon calls for outdoor dining licences waiver
A call for outdoor dining area licences and fees to be waived by local authorities has been made by Kildare South minister of state Martin Heydon TD, writes Brian Byrne.
He also wants a simplification of the planning process involved, so that businesses seeking such Section 24 licences don't get stuck or delayed with red tape and additional costs.
He says that it is 'crucial' to support businesses in the hospitality sector in reopening as they have sustained significant losses because of coronavirus restrictions.
The initial emphasis when they do reopen will be on outdoor dining. But licence fees for this can range from €125 per table to €1,250 for hoarding or fencing.
"The introduction of a waiver from these fees would be a practical step to support the Kildare hospitality sector that has been through such a tough time,” the minister said, "and for their customers who look forward to them reopening as soon as possible."
