Maggie, the Easter Bunny, arrives in Kilcullen

The Easter Bunny, Maggie. has arrived in Kilcullen early with her youngster, writes Brian Byrne.

They were met by a Kilcullen Community Action welcoming group when they were driven up on a trailer to Bank of Ireland Plaza, their creator Pat Munnelly keeping them from toppling during the journey.

Pat makes the creations as a form of art therapy, which he was introduced to in hospital following a head injury. He says it helps him deal with a depression which came as a result of his injury.

The structure wood is made from recycled pallets, and the shapes are formed from heathers and leylandii from Pat's garden and bog.

"We thought it would be a lovely idea to have the figures made, to bring a bit of joy to Kilcullen," says Eoin Houlihan of the Easter Committee of KCA.

And in a sign of things to come, families were lining up immediately to have their pictures taken with the bunnies.
