Council seeks public help to set up 'Carbonisation Zone'
Kildare County Council is seeking the public's help in deciding on a pilot 'Carbonisation Zone', writes Brian Byrne.
It's part of the Government Climate Action Plan 2019, which tasked each local authority to set up such a zone to try out and evaluate how a community's carbon footprint can be reduced.
The 'test-bed' zone will help the Council to understand the scale of the challenge in County Kildare, and also help in mapping out the various key stakeholders and enablers of the process.
The Zone will either be an urban area with a population of 5,000 or over, or a rural area of four square kilometres or more.
The Council is inviting submissions from interested community groups to help them pick a Zone. There's a range of headings which the submission should address, and full details are available here.
Closing date for submissions is 26 March 2021 at 5pm.
