Weatherday: Matter of a mitre

A cloudy start, patchy rain will develop into heavier rain through lunchtime. Clearing to dry after dark.

Highest temperature 8deg, fresh wind from the south will moderate in the afternoon.

On this day in 1850, Paul Cullen from Narraghmore, Co Kildare, was consecrated Catholic archbishop of Armagh and primate of Ireland. He would later become Ireland's first Cardinal.
