Bridge Community Book Club needs 'A Greyhound of a Girl'
While the Bridge Camphill Community have been keeping a low public profile through the pandemic, that doesn't mean they're not busy, writes Brian Byrne.
The ongoing activities include continuation of onsite and remote services to the community's day service attendees, frequently using Zoom. Among these, facilitated by the German co-workers, is an online Book Club.
The next book for this is Roddy Doyle's A Greyhound of a Girl, first published in 2011. It tells the story of Emer, a grandmother, and her daughter and granddaughter, as Emer approaches the end of her life. However, it's not in print at the moment and the Bridge group is having trouble sourcing copies. If there are any out there in Kilcullen, they'd love to have them.
"I know it a popular book and there are copies out there," says the Community's Sarah Gillespie. "I would be grateful if they had unwanted copies at home to consider donating them to us. They can be popped through An Tearmann Coffee shop letter box, or posted in."
The book has appeared in many editions with different covers, so one of those in our collage above may trigger recognition among the Diary's readers.
