The Old Courthouse goes on the market
An historical building on Kilcullen's Main Street has just gone on the market, The Old Courthouse, writes Brian Byrne.
Formerly the home of the much-loved Tess O'Rourke, who passed away in May, the 1,400 sq ft building includes four bedrooms, and a quarter-acre site at the back.
The house dates to the early 1800s and was built as the village's Courthouse. According to the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage, it is of considerable social interest as one of the earliest civic buildings in the locality.
In the enlargement above of the streetscape, from the photograph taken by Robert French in the early 1900s, you can see the outline of a policeman looking out from the door (where the boards of notices are placed on the footpath).
