Ladies Design Labels Popup Weekend at McTernans in Kilcullen

A popup boutique in McTernans of Kilcullen this weekend offers a rare opportunity for the fashionable ladies of the county to beat the covid blues and pick up a bit of designer fashion, writes Brian Byrne.

The idea is from McTernans owner Mary Masterson and some of her friends, and the event will run through the afternoons on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with every buyer to be put in a Sunday draw for a gourmet hamper.

"We had been talking of doing something like this all through the lockdown," says Mary, who has operated McTernans with her husband Mick for many years. "We couldn't come up with a space to do it, until somebody reminded me that our own pub would be perfect."

Like all pubs in the country, McTernans has been closed since the lockdown in March of this year. One of the most popular bars in Kilcullen, it last year won the Paint the Town Red Punchestown competition sponsored by Bank of Ireland.

Mary emphasises that the pub itself will not be open at the weekend, but the premises does provide lots of safe space for ladies to look through the designer gear on offer.

"Some is new, with the original labels, other items will have been worn only once or twice," Mary says. She's hoping the event will give her a boost too, given the frame of mind she's in after the enforced closure for the last five months. "It will be a bit of brightness for all of us ladies in a dark time."
