Submissions called for on Draft Litter Management Plan

A public consultation is now under way on Kildare County Council's Draft Litter Management Plan, writes Brian Byrne. The closing date for submissions is Friday 4 September.

The Draft Plan has six main sections, including Communication and Awareness, Prevention and Control, Enforcement, Community Involvement, and Recycling and Recovery.

Prepared under the Litter Pollution Act 1997, the Litter Management Plan details what measures the Council will be undertaking between 2020-2023. Specific areas where the Council is seeking others to join in taking action are outlined in the 40-page document.

An 18-point Action Plan for the period includes the provision of a targeted warden service in known litter and dumping locations, as well as the possibility of using branded vehicles for the Warden Service to increase visibility.

The use of CCTV, overtly and covertly, to monitor areas prone to illegal dumping is part of the plan. There will also be a review of public realm litter bin provisions.

The document provides full contact details for each area to report local litter issues. It can be downloaded from here. The draft plan is also available to view at local libraries.

All written submissions will be considered before the plan is finalised. Submissions may also be made through the online consultation portal available on the council website. Registration is required — a very easy process.
