More seats mooted for the Valley

A suggestion that more seats are needed in the Valley park is to be followed up by a Sunday morning visit to the area by members of Kilcullen Community Action, to see where might be the best locations, writes Brian Byrne.

The matter came up at last night's meeting of KCA, held for the first time in Kilcullen Community Centre.

Noel Clare said that on a number of recent occasions when he walked through the Valley, every existing seat was occupied. "I know that we went through a period where we were discouraging seats, because of instances of anti-social behaviour," he said. "But maybe it's time we looked at that again."

Eoin Houlihan said that for every one of anti-social behaviour, there might be 25 occasions when people were getting benefit from the existing seats. "We shouldn't be punishing everybody for the sins of a very few," he said.

In a discussion, it was noted that there are a number of spaces in the park where there had once been seats which were removed. The conversation then led to further thoughts that some benches with tables might be introduced. The memorial space dedicated to the late Barry Coffey could hold two tables, it was suggested.

The meeting agreed that a group visit to the park on Sunday morning would be worthwhile, where suitable locations might be identified.
