Please don't steal our daffodils!
The weather has been beautiful, the daffodils are out in strength, and given all the background issues it is a very nice Easter, writes Brian Byrne.
But one reader has sent us a note that slightly takes the gloss off. She observed a lady stop her car at Nicholastown yesterday and help herself to a 'massive' bunch of the daffodils now adorning the road edge of the green.
"It is not as important as lots of today’s news but it annoyed me nonetheless," our correspondent says. "I just couldn’t believe it! I’d hate to think this was happening regularly."
Quite. We wonder was the WX registration an indication of somebody travelling a distance on essential business?
Meanwhile, we have also been asked to once again highlight the issue of dog fouling. Another correspondent writes that with the welcome improvement in the weather and increased numbers of people taking daily exercise with their dogs, the problem is definitely getting much worse.
"This is currently an unpleasant and unhygienic issue (as well as an offence under the litter laws) on the footpaths in Brannockstown village," he writes, "especially on the Kilcullen road past the church and school. Most of us realise that it is quite likely that our canine friends will need to relieve themselves while out exercising so it would be welcomed if owners would all come prepared to clean up. Most dog owners do this but it appears that a lot do not. A little social responsibility combined with social distancing would be much appreciated."
