Kilcullen is a Biodiversity Town

Kilcullen has been selected as one of ten communities in County Kildare to get special status as a Biodiversity Town, writes Brian Byrne.

Eoin Houlihan told the recent meeting of Kilcullen Community Action that confirmation had come from Kildare County Council.

The project is being supported by the Kildare Leader Partnership through the Council's Heritage department.

The scheme will see the development of local Biodiversity Action Plans for the successful communities, each of which will be required to provide a team to work with consultants.

KCA chair Ann Cashman commended the success of the application, noting that there had been 17 towns in contention for the scheme.

Eoin Houlihan said there will be assistance from a professional in the biodiversity area in due course.
