Moon and Sixpence in Kilcullen tomorrow night
A reminder that tickets are available for the Moon and Sixpence concert in Kilcullen Town Hall tomorrow night, Thursday, writes Brian Byrne.
The event brings together the members of the band formed two decades ago to raise funds for charitable and community causes.
The Moon and Sixpence draw their repertoire from classic pop songs from the 1960s to the present day. The band was originally formed by the late Des Byrne of Kilcullen, Michael O’Connell from Kilcullen and Newbridge, and Michael McCarthy from Kilcullen with John Reidy from Newbridge. The lineup later evolved to include lead singer Siobhan Hurley, and Henry Donoghue, both from Newbridge.
On this occasion the proceeds will go towards the costs of the ceremonial lighting of the tower at Old Kilcullen, and of the bridge in Kilcullen, next Sunday 15 December. That event will be the culmination of the year of celebration marking 700 years since the building of the first bridge at the location.
The Old Kilcullen leg of the event will begin at 4pm and will be followed by a torchlight walk from the tower to the bridge, symbolising the move of the settlement from the hill to the river.
Tickets for the Moon and Sixpence are available from Berney Chemists or any member of the Kilcullen 700 Committee.
