Shortt family's Christmas lights, visible from space?
It was too early last Sunday to have the lights at Mary and Francis Shortt's home switched on for those walking down from the tower, writes Brian Byrne. But they were a bright beacon on the Old Kilcullen Commons later on.
The display has been built up over many years, and could possibly now be seen from space, as was the target in that very funny Christmas movie 'Deck the Halls' starring Danny DeVito.
(Actually, NASA cameras in space can indeed see Christmas lights, and in 2014 put on a display of some of the images the agency had collected showing these.)
The Shortt's display is not open to the public, for security and safety reasons, but it is well worth driving by to see from the road.
The Diary was given an up-close tour, and you can see the results here.
Francis says it takes about two weeks to put the whole display together.
