Full flow of visitors, performers, at Miscellany

John Martin and Eilis Phillips deftly managed the constant flow of performers from room to room as friends, neighbours and supporters gathered in a Bermingham family home for the latest Miscellany on Sunday, writes Gerry O'Donoghue.

Fuelled by lashings of tea, coffee, mulled wine and sweet and savoury nibbles, the attendance was treated to a wide ranging programme of music, song, poetry and prose. Despite the inclement weather and the pre-Christmas bustle, the annual event was as popular as ever and many patrons called on their way to and from other Christmassy outings.

Organised to support Fr John Bermingham’s mission in Mozambique, funds raised this year will be used to construct and equip an outdoor kitchen to facilitate community and church celebrations at Fr John’s parish.

Fr Dan Bargary, Redemptorist Provincial, thanked all present for their continued support. He spoke of the work of Fr John and his colleagues and how the support from home helped them to face their many challenges.

A measure of the success of the day was the fact that despite the intended finishing time of five o’clock, the session was in full swing long after that time.

Miscellany on Sunday, over for another year, but a sure sign that Christmas in Kilcullen has well and truly begun.
