Big interest in The Quare Land on Kilcullen's Big Screen

There are very strong bookings for the screening next weekend of the hit play produced by Kilcullen Drama Group in 2016, The Quare Landwrites Brian Byrne.

The play is to return to the Town Hall Theatre for one night only on Friday 25 October. This time, though, it will be shown on the big screen in the theatre.

The video of the John McManus play, which featured the late Bernard Berney with Vivian Clarke in what arguably were the most demanding roles they ever attempted, is being shown with the blessing of the Berney family to raise funds for a defibrillator for the north end of town.

Just 100 tickets are available for the presentation, at €10 each. They are available in Berneys Chemist.

The idea for showing the video came from the recent near-tragic incident at Kilcullen GAA when long-time club supporter Michael Lambe had a heart attack. His life was saved only because there was a defibrillator available at the club and it was possible to restart his heart.

“That got me thinking about defibrillators,” says Vivian Clarke. “There are several available at key places south of the bridge, including two on Main Street. But north of the bridge, there’s none.”

As it happened, consideration was already being given to showing the video made by Pat Foley of the show at a private screening for Drama Group members. “Then we came up with the idea of doing it for this very important cause. The original show was very successful, and it’s likely that there are many who would would like to see it again.”
