'Positive meeting' on future of Curragh Plains

A recent meeting in Dail Eireann between officials of the Department of Defence and Kildare County Council on the future management of the Curragh Plains 'was constructive', according to Deputy Martin Heydon who organised the meeting, writes Brian Byrne.

"Plans set out for future engagement between the Department and Kildare County Council," Deputy Heydon added. "I look forward to a positive outcome to these talks in the near future to ensure a positive and proactive approach to managing and maintaining the Curragh Plains."

He noted that following repeated representations for a strengthening of the stewarding system on the Curragh, additional Maors (wardens) had been hired earlier this year.

"Kildare County Council also have plenty to offer towards developing a future management and conservation plan for what is one of our County's greatest resources, so a joint approach should be a benefit."

Director of Services with Kildare County Council Joe Boland said at a recent meeting of the Kildare Newbridge MD that it had been a 'very positive meeting'. "It has been going on a long time, and there have been delays," he said. "But now I'm confident that things will move forward in a very positive way."
