Gas incident at Carnalway
Though there's not as yet been confirmation from Gas Networks Ireland, it is now understood that last evening's gas incident in the Carnalway area was related to culvert works currently under way on the Logstown to Carnalway Road, writes Brian Byrne.
Residents reported a very strong smell of gas in the area, and a continuous loud noise.
Gas Networks Ireland was contacted and the advice was to close windows and stay indoors, but that there was 'no danger'.
The noise, described as being 'like a plane engine', stopped within an hour of contact with GNI. "All is well," one resident told the Diary this morning, "the smell of gas was really strong at the time."
